Romeu Duarte Carneiro Mendes

​Romeu Mendes holds a PhD in Sports Sciences, a Medical Doctor Degree, a Master's Degree in Sports Sciences, and a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education and Sports. He also has postgraduate studies in Sports Medicine and in Public Health. Professionally he is Medical Doctor resident in Public Health in the Portuguese Northern Region Health Administration (Public Health Unit of ACES Douro I - Marão and Douro Norte), Assistant Professor of the Department of Sport Sciences, Exercise and Health of the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro and Researcher at the Epidemiology Research Unit of the Institute of Public Health of the University of Porto. He is also the Director General of the community intervention program "Diabetes em Movimento", and the representative of the European Lifestyle Medicine Organization in Portugal. In 2016 he joined the work team in Physical Activity of the Public Health Department of the Portuguese Northern Region Health Administration, and the National Program for the Promotion of Physical Activity of the Directorate General of Health. In 2017 he was appointed by the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education as Coordinator of the Intersectoral Commission for the Promotion of Physical Activity.


His main scientific and research interests are in the field of Physical Activity and Public Health, being involved in several research projects that have resulted in national and international scientific publications and in numerous participations in international scientific events.
